The value and leverage of business media was proved yet again this week when the national press responded to an article in Haymarket Business Media’s PR Week. An ‘organigram’ showing how Gordon Brown’s new-look communications team lines up was published, with political editors suggesting the article caused shockwaves at Number 10.

Gilbertson appointed CEO of Emap Communications

It was announced this week that David Gilbertson (pictured) will be appointed as chief executive of Emap Communications. His appointment will become effective on 20 March 2008, when the acquisition of Emap by APAX/GMG is expected to be complete.

101 magazines make it to industry 'Oscars' shortlist

Ten Alps acquires Sovereign Publications

Factual media company Ten Alps today announced the acquisition of Sovereign Publications. The acquisition expands Ten Alps’ portfolio of specialist factual media with 33 new titles and a range of associated websites in the healthcare, finance, technology and energy sectors. Sovereign’s revenues for the financial year to May 2007 were £3.16m.

Harnessing online recruitment

Online is driving the recruitment market and has the highest share of its ad spend according to Martyn Gates, director of newspapers, ABC electronic. Gates was addressed an audience yesterday at OnRec’s How to harness online recruitment conference at The Café Royal, London. Quoting figures from the IAB, Gates said that 67 per cent of the UK is now online (32m people) and 25 per cent of their weekday media time is spent online.

FT reaches students through Facebook

The Financial Times (FT) will offer students free access to FT.com through a Facebook application. The application will be made available internationally through Facebook groups, and only current students will be able to see the offer.

RBI acquires Heren Energy Ltd

ICIS, the commodity market information business of Reed Business Information, has today announced its acquisition of Heren Energy Ltd. Heren Energy is a gas, power and carbon market information provider.
