Incisive Media acquires Global Technology Forum Ltd

Business information provider Incisive Media has acquired Global Technology Forum, an independent organiser of conferences and training for the oil, gas and petrochemical refining and processing industries.

United Business Media makes 4 acquisitions

United Business Media Plc (UBM) this week announced several acquisitions which further expands the size of the growing Business Media provider. The company’s healthcare division, CMPMedica acquired the Australian Prescription Products Guide for A$1m (£0.4m). The Guide is a drug information brand for the Australian pharmacy market.

Reed on course for 10 per cent EPS growth

Reed Elsevier the science, medical and legal publishing business, reported a 13 per cent rise in first-half profits and gave an upbeat assessment of market conditions. The Anglo-Dutch company, which recently sold its American educational publishing business for $4bn, said it was on course to deliver 10 per cent growth in earnings per share.

Springer acquires FMC

Springer Science+Business Media (Springer) has acquired FMC (www.fmc.co.uk), the commercial dental publisher in the United Kingdom. FMC was founded in 1995 and concentrates exclusively on the fast-growing dental market, having a leading market position in the UK and Ireland and by 2006 boasted turnover of almost £6m.

Emap's infrastructure for success

Emap announced last week that it has acquired Torcello Publishing Limited, owner of Infrastructure Journal, a subscription-based online information service aimed at the infrastructure project finance market.

Reed Elsevier tops media performers in FTSE productivity ranking

Reed Elsevier was the top performing media company in a new ranking of FTSE top 100 companies, measuring their operational efficiency. Trinity Horne teamed up with former MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) visiting professor Shlomo Maital to produce the UK’s first and annual Total Factor Productivity (TFP) Index.

Emap sells exhibition business

Emap plc announced this week that it has completed the sale of its French business media exhibition business, Agor, to GL events S.A. for a cash consideration of €85m. Agor’s business comprises the retail trade exhibitions Tradexpo, Print’Or, Orhopa, CFIA and MDD. 

Accountancy Age wins Tabbie award

AccountancyAge.com has been named as one of the best business to business websites in the world. The site won the bronze prize in the 2007 Tabbie Awards run by the Trade Association and Business Publications International organisation (TABPI). 

The Economist to launch downloadable audio edition

Rupert Murdoch buys Dow Jones, owners of the Wall Street Journal

Rupert Murdoch has succeeded with his $5 billion bid for Dow Jones, owners of the Wall Street Journal, according to sources acting for the Dow Jones board. Negotiations have been completed and the board is confident the terms of the deal will be accepted by the Bancroft family, which controls a majority of voting shares in Dow Jones, over the next few days. A formal announcement is expected next week.

Daily Mail group buys Trinity Mirror regional titles

Northcliffe Media, part of Daily Mail & General Trust, today bought 25 Trinity Mirror regional weekly newspapers for £64.15m. The local newspaper division of DMGT today said it had bought three Trinity Mirror's local divisions, East Surrey and Sussex Newspapers, Kent Regional Newspapers and Blackmore Vale Publishing.

A recent report by American Business Media (ABM) has found this year’s magazine revenues to be stable, while other platforms such as face-to-face and online media continue to thrive.

United Business Media has acquired How Machines Work Corporation with the website www.howmachineswork.com for an initial cash consideration of $1.2m. A further deferred consideration of up to $0.6m will be payable over the next two years, subject to certain conditions.

Incisive to acquire American Lawyer Media

Business information provider Incisive Media is expected to acquire American Lawyer Media (ALM) from private equity firm Wasserstein & Co around £300m. The pending transaction will make Incisive Media almost three times larger than it was when it was listed last year.
