Data and analysis service provider Datamonitor will increase its telecoms, software and IT research service with the acquisition of telecoms consultancy Ovum for approximately £41.8m. Ovum provides research, market analysis and advisory services in the global information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

Informa in takeover bid from Springer

Global specialist information provider Informa confirmed today (19 October) that it had been approached by Springer Science and Business Media (owned by private equity firms Candover and Cinven) but cautioned that the approach had been “highly preliminary” and said discussions were “an extremely early stage”.

Information has acquired a tradeshow and conference. CMPi has acquired The Care Show for a total cash consideration of £450,000 plus a further performance based deferred payment of up to £350,000 over the next twelve months.

VNU has announced that it may sell off its magazines business in Europe. The Business and Professional Media publisher – based in the Netherlands – is said to be investigating “strategic alternatives” for its Business Media Europe (BME) group which runs across Europe.
Business magazine display advertising set for a boost

Display advertising in business and professional magazines is set to rise by five per cent in the first quarter of 2007 compared to the same period this year. The figures, published by the World Advertising Research Center (WARC) for the Advertising Association, show the highest quarterly year-on-year growth rate since the final quarter of 2005.
