A website has launched to support the fifth international business magazine and professional media conference talking place in London next year. The event, organised by PPA Professional and hosted by the International Federation of the Periodical Press (FIPP), will take place at Grosvenor House on from 1-3 May 2006 as part of Magazines 2006.

PPA Professional has appointed Amy Duffin to the position of marketing executive. Amy, who joins from London First where she was involved in project management and events organisation, will be working on PPA Professional activities including advocacy and events.

Professional magazine chronicles 150 years

Britain's oldest business and professional magazine, Local Government Chronicle (LGC), is gearing up to celebrate its 150th birthday. The weekly title, founded by campaigning publisher Charles Knight, was first published in 1855, the year of Charlotte Bronte's death and Charles Dickens' first instalment of Little Dorritt — and, arguably, before the concept of local government even existed.

Open invitation to launch of industry report Connecting Business

A new report, to be published next week, will demonstrate the runaway growth of the UK business information and professional media industry. The 36 page report, Professional Media: Connecting Business, will be launched by Sir David Arculus (pictured), vice-president and president-elect of the Confederation of British Industries (CBI), at an evening reception next Thursday (3 November) to which all PPA members are invited.
