Emap results show good news for B2B division

Emap has released preliminary results for the year ended 31 March 2004 showing a 9 per cent rise in turnover, and an 11 per cent increase in group operating profit excluding amortisation and exceptional items. Commenting on the results Tom Moloney, Emap Group Chief Executive, said, “The business overall is in good shape. Whilst we will face some major challenges in the year ahead, we’re ready for them, and we expect to continue delivering growth.”

The winners of the Business Food and Drink Journalist of the Year awards, sponsored by Britvic Soft Drinks in association with the PPA, were announced at a ceremony at Circus Restaurant & Bar in London on 30 April.

Medical sector publishers join forces

Agencies and publishers within the medical market this week agreed to work with PPA on developing a programme of activity to help promote the sector. The initiative will be led by a programme of presentations to clients about the effectiveness of the print medium within the pharmaceutical marketplace.

Agencies upbeat for 2004

Marketing budgets are rising according to the Q1 2004 Agency Barometer from the Communications Agencies Federation (CAF). The survey of agencies indicates a continuation of the positive trend seen in previous quarters with 51 per cent of respondents reporting that budgets committed by clients had increased since being set, up from 42 per cent in quarter four and 32 per cent in quarter three.

Integration and innovative thinking key to future B2B success

Speaking at the B2B conference last week on 4 May, as part of Magazines 2004, Publicis chief executive Grant Duncan called for more ambition in the sector. He said: "If we the communications industry don’t raise the bar, we can’t complain if our clients happily limbo dance below it."

IPA director general announces B2B advertising excellence award winners

Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) director general Hamish Pringle opened the lunchtime presentation of the B2B advertising excellence awards today. Pringle said he was happy to support an event promoting excellence in such an important sector, especially with "the tangible sense of optimism just now."

PPA chairman Keith Jones of Reed Business Information, was joined by Tim Weller of Incisive Media, Charles Reed of William Reed Publishing, Derek Carter of Emap Communications, Bernard Gray of CMP Information, Brin Bucknor of VNU Publications and Helen Alexander of The Economist Group.
