European magazine advertising set to bounce back in 2004

According to Ad Barometer, magazine ad expenditure in the main European markets is set to recover in 2004. Forecasts for France, Germany, Italy and Spain all predict improvements for 2004, in all but Germany the improvements are seen in both consumer and trade sectors.

Magazines most trusted and transparent medium, says Media Brand survey

This year’s Media Brand survey by Ocean Consulting has shown that magazines are the most trusted and transparent medium for trading, according to top media agencies. An increasing number also felt that commercially, magazines, as a medium, would be winners over the coming decade.

The gold award for best individual advertisement at the Campaign Press Awards went to DDB London for their ‘Cops’ ad for Volkswagen Polo, the ‘small but tough’ theme being humorously and effectively driven home by a group of cops in a siege situation seeking refuge behind a Polo.

Incisive Media reports 157 per cent rise in pre-tax profits

Incisive Media has reported preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2003, showing an increase of 157 per cent in statutory profit before tax to £3.5m, and a 46 per cent increase in turnover to £35.3m. The acquisition of Risk Waters Group in May for £35m was a major factor behind the increase.

ABC announces B2B magazine rule changes

The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) Council has ratified changes to the business-to-business Magazine Standard audit rules. The rule changes were discussed and approved by the Business Press Specialist Committee.

Informa Group and Taylor & Francis Group have announced a proposed merger, worth approximately £1.1bn, to create T&F Informa, an international company specialising in the provision of specialist information through its combined publishing and events businesses.

Centaur flotation planned for £145m

A holding company created by institutional stockbrokers Numis Securities has announced the purchase of Centaur Communications for £145m. It plans to float the business on 10 March. Centaur Holdings said it had raised approximately £134m from an institutional placing fully underwritten by Numis.
